I have sent you a copy of the earliest record of the Lake family that I have manged to find. lakemarriage.pdf - Marriage certificate - Philip Lake and Margaret Holt - 1857 (Adobe Acrobat file). Let me know if you can open the file ok, as I also have a copy of a census record from 1871 and a couple of birth certificates which I can send you.
We have been trying to trace the generation before Philip Lake. We believe he came from Devon, as this was recorded as his place of birth on the 1871 census. However there is some confusion over this, as on the 1881 census he is recorded as having been born in Exeter, Lancashire. We have only manged to find his father's name (John Lake), as it is written on Philips marriage certificate.
Whilst researching the family, I have also been in contact with someone called Ted Lake. He has managed to trace his family back to the 18th Century. As yet we haven't managed to find any relationships between the families. However on the 1881 census his family also lived in Knutsford Road, Warrington, at number 135. Whilst Philip Lake lived at 174 and his son Peter Holt Lake at number 275.
