Born in 1729 but owing, probably to the burning of the registers of Barton Stacey Church nothing can be ascertained to his parents.
Nothing is known of him until his appearance in the Sutton Scotney area.
He was a surgeon in the Royal Navy and is said to have come from the West Indies and killed a highwayman on Salisbury Plain. This so weighed on his conscience that he retired from the Service and went to live at Scotney Downs.
He and his wife were buried in the church yard of Barton Stacey, Hants.
